Hi Dr Sher. I’m 33 yrs old, and my husband is 40. I developed uterine scarring in 2019 after a D&C from an incomplete miscarriage. I was cleared to try again after several hysteroscopies. After 2 failed IVFs, I finally for pregnant on an IUI cycle but lost the baby at 21 weeks. I bled throughout the pregnancy, and the sac pushed past my preventative cerclage.
We decided to try an IUI again, and the outcome was so different this time (150 FHS and 75 HMG for 10 days) It looked like I had 7 follicles, with 3 between 20-24mm and 4 around 17-19mm. However, when a blood test was done a day before the trigger, my estrogen was at 125 pg/ml, and progesterone below 0.25 ng/ml. Since my scarring, I’ve had a problem with thin endometrium, but this time it was very bad…4.75mm…It didn’t grow at all. We proceeded with the IUI, and I was placed on Cyclogest 400mg 2x/day, and progynova 4mg 3x/day. I didn’t get pregnant.
Dr Sher, I have always believed my scarred endometrium was the reason behind my infertility. Now I am ready to try surrogacy, but I am worried that I now have new problems. What could have caused the low estrogen and progesterone, and what can I do to ensure a better response next time?
